Process & Policy

Now that you have determined your organization’s readiness, it is time to plan for success through the development of processes and policies. Careful and clear processes ensure success. Effective processes consider the timing. How long will each phase take? A Gant chart is one tool for organizing timing. Processes should also determine roles. Who will be in charge of each step within the implementation?

Process models, such as DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve and control) are used to guide an organization through the change process while recognizing the need to make improvements along the way (Guo et al., 2019). The project manager can use the measure and control phases to ensure the task is completed on time and with a high level of success to the stakeholders.

“[P]roper alignment between content, people and process are what leads to successful change” (Al-Haddad et al., 2015, p. 244).

As with processes, policies are equally critical to successful completion of a task (Rosacker and Rosacker, 2010). Despite the importance of policies, they can create some challenges. Lester (2017) noted that government policies may change on the fly, so leaders need to be wary of these updates. While it is not feasible to understand all the policies, it is necessary to not set out of the scope of the project.
